The Laboratory Licensure Bill is ready for action by the 2014 Minnesota Legislature.  This year’s session begins February 25 and is likely to be short, with a goal of completing work by mid-April.  The bill was introduced in January 2013 and will have minor changes made in an amendment during the first committee hearing  The lead authors are Senator John Hoffman (Anoka) and Representative Will Morgan (Burnsville)

During past sessions, the laboratory community in Minnesota developed valuable contacts with state senators and representatives in support of the licensure effort.  The opposition we expect during this session will come mostly from hospitals, the Minnesota Hospital Association, and the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).

We will review the legislative background and the advocacy message in a morning briefing and then make visits to our state senators and representatives.  We need participants from districts all over the state, but especially those whose legislators are on the health committees listed at the end of this flyer.
