Minnesota Licensure Update
Submitted by Colleen Forester, Legislative Chair
For the past 2 1/2 years I have been sitting on the MN Licensure of Clinical Laboratory Personnel Coalition. Last year we introduced an all inclusive bill that we withdrew right before its introduction due to major opposition from CAP.
After several more meetings since then, the coalition brought up the issue of omitting anatomic pathology (cytology and histology) from the bill and it was put to a vote. A majority voted to, in fact, take us out. Since that time CAP has issued a second statement easing their opposition to licensure if that states pathology society decided it was in the best interest of the people of that state to have AP be included.
Currently, anatomic pathology is in the process of gathering additional information to write a letter to the coalition asking that either we be put back in this bill or we will oppose it. If AP is not included it will cause major issues for our professions in the future and it NEEDS to be all inclusive.
Rest assured I am working hard to stay on top of this and will share information as we move forward. This issue is very complicated - not an easy sell on any level but certainly needs to be done correctly if it going to happen.
